Large Format Optical Scanners
Scanners are devices that are used to convert graphical or textual information into a computer file. This is needed because we can’t every time take up a page and type it, if we need that information on our computer. Thus scanners help in fast conversion of these graphical images to computer compatible files. Scanners come in number of sizes depending on the user requirements. Small size scanners are being used by home based users while large format scanners are used by industrial users. Let us now take a look of what these large format scanners have to offer the customers.
As explained earlier a large format optical scanner can convert graphical data from large paper dimensions and replicate it into an arrangement that can be used by a processor. The dimensions play an important role in deciding the format of a scanner. Large format scanners are those which can convert data into digital form with a width of up to 1000mm and length up to 5000mm. if your document is larger than this then it has to de divided into parts so that it can be scanned. These parts are then pasted together to give the feeling of the original document.
The mechanism used by these scanners is not that complex. What happens is that, all the information, be it an image or text is converted into bitmaps, which are actually codes representing the data at a particular location. This bitmap can then be converted back t image format with the help of the assembly in the central processing unit of the scanner.
This kind of scanning goes well with graphical form of data like evidence drawing, architectural tactics, structural particulars, region map, scenery designs, manufacturing sketch and structure strategy. But it is not well adapted for conversion of textual. To scan textual information scanners have special arrangement known as the optical character recognition (OCR) system, which converts the texts into ASCII characters. Thus it can easily scan text and also increase the quality of the scanned graphics. It can enhance image quality by addition or erasing of text, elimination or introduction of original lines, or prominence areas and many tasks.
The most common type of large format scanners being used today is the sheet-fed scanner since this scanner can be used to scan loose sheets of paper. Thus if you are looking for a good scanner, then go for large format scanners.
