Types of Computer Scanners

Scanners are devices which are used to convert a document (a text document, an image or any other piece of information on paper) into a computer compatible file especially in the HTML format. These are the devices which will keep you assured that if you have something on paper it can be easily deported or deployed on your computer screen. The devices came into existence when technology felt the urge of digitizing every bit of information available. Scanner basically takes the document as an image and then scans it line by line to machine language which is actually bit map of the image. The technology that works behind a scanner is really amazing. Let us now take a look at the various types of scanners available in the market and analyze the reasons for their mass popularity.

The first and the most common type of scanners being used these days is the sheet fed scanner. You must have heard about the mimeograph used in the late 80s for scanning purpose. This particular scanner revolves around the similar technology. The paper is first threaded into a roller which is used to rotate the paper at a particular speed. As the paper rotates the information is collected in its exact format but the final format on the computer depends on the user. Depending on your requirements you can have a word file or an image file. Well the device provides excellent quality but is not advisable if you are looking for quantity. There is a limit to the throughput of the device and hence is not advisable for mass production.

The other type of scanners that are preferred for mass production or say scanning books and magazines is the Flatbed Scanners. It is almost a copying machine and has exactly similar scanning mechanism to a copying machine.
As it is clear that these devices are much more talented and equipped for mass scanning, it also poses a size problem to the customers. They surely will eat up a lot of your desktop space for sure.
Well for most of the users there are three basic things to look at before actually going for a scanner. These are the Usability, dimension and cost of the scanner. For small scale users price is the main criterion while for industrial usage it is the usability and size that matters the most. Thus it all depends on your requirements and budget to go for a particular scanner.
