PDAs Vs. Laptops
PDAs are gaining so much popularity that we have reached a stage where we can’t resist ourselves from comparing these devices with the laptops. For many years laptops have been the most amazing piece of portable technology, but today PDAs are giving stiff competition and affecting laptop sales. Even many multinational companies, which used to equip their employees with laptops, are now drifting towards PDAs because of their small size and many other advantages. This doesn’t mean that laptop era has finished and now onwards we will see decay in their sales. It is just that we have a competitor for laptops in our hands known as the latest personal digital assistant.
As we all know that PDA is actually a handheld computer. Some of the leading players in PDA industry include PalmOne, Tungsten and BlackBerry. The reason why these devices are becoming popular is that they provide excellent features and most importantly are the tiniest computers ever made. Their size is such that they can fit in the palm of your hand, they can carry out a complete variety of functions counting calculator, timepiece, almanac, browser, e-mails sending and receiving, typing, word processor, video camera and even GPS (Global Positioning System).
Talking about the salient features, PDAs are suitable, multi-functional and are really easy to use devise. They are actually a great tool for business promotion. Every company wants a full time connectivity with its employees and that can be achieved by PDAs. It is actually like an office away from office. PDAs have become part for our lives and we can’t imagine living without these devices. Small size has many advantages but there is one limitation of this size too. Digitally challenged people find it difficult to handle such small devices. They find those small buttons really irritating, even touch screens are not suitable for them. Thus for them a laptop is a better option because of suitable size and greater strength.
This is where business laptops are still essential, not for challenged people but for those who are not able to understand the technicalities of using a small device. Laptop also has more functions in the list. You can also get voice over internet protocol facility in a laptop that’s not available on PDAs. It also has much wider screen and hence you do not have to strain your eyes like you have to do in case of a PDA. Keyboard in laptop has larger buttons that makes normal typing tasks much easier. This is one of the aspects where laptop sometimes beats a PDA.
