Management Tools

There are certain management tools that an office supervisor can use to become an effective office supervisor, and get prepared for a career path that would eventually allow him a very good life with rewarding benefits. These management tools would also allow him to prepare himself to help his employees stay on a career path that would be bright and just as rewarding as his had been.

One of the management tools that he used was how to write effective policies and procedures that would set the stage for how his employees did their work, and what expectations were required to be followed when they were at work. The policies were displayed at several locations in the department and everyone knew that they were not negotiable. Since his employees knew what was expected of them on a day-to-day basis, there was no time wasted on useless innuendo and gossip.

Other management tools that the office supervisor used allowed him to free up time to effectively manage his office. He relied on a administrative assistant to keep his schedules, and perform any research that he needed to make his management decisions with. The administrative assistant was very organized and could retrieve documents that he needed for meetings, and make sure that he never forgot an appointment.

He attended finance and accounting seminars that were specifically tailored to be understood by non-financial managers, and with the management tools he took from that training, he was better prepared to manage his office budget and effectively write better policies that centered on how much overtime was allowed in his department.

Using the management tools for emergency response planning, he was able to identify several deficiencies in his office that would make it impossible for people to evacuate the building in the event that a fire broke out. He set a policy that prohibited items from being placed in front of fire doors, and would ensure that there was no office furniture being stored on the stairs that led down and out of the building.

One of the management tools that he relied heavily on at times was the skills he developed to successfully manage many projects at one time. He had learned how to meet all of the objective in his projects, and always seemed to be able to meet deadlines. Learning the fundamentals of successful project management had kept the moral in the office high, and productivity improved immensely.
