Careers and employment in business and finance
There are many possibilities of careers and employment in the field of business and finance. Depending on the level of education and the experience and interests of the student, careers and employment are available in almost every industry in the world.
The elite positions in business and finance within a corporation or business usually go to those who have a Masters of Business Administration degree (MBA). Particularly for those universities which have a high-end reputable MBA program, graduates can command the highest salaries and benefits. For the person who wants to make a career in business, acquiring the best possible MBA will pay off in dollars and cents.
MBA’s often specialize in their course of study. There are MBA’s with an emphasis in finance, economics, accounting, and human resources among others. These specialty fields allow them to choose employment in a business or industry that best suits their interests and experience.
Careers and employment in finance is also varied, dependent upon interest and experience. Bookkeepers actually do the day to day recording of the financial data. Much of the routine work is now being done by more and more sophisticated software programs. Accounting clerks, accountants, supervising accountants, and fiscal managers are progressively more responsible positions within the field of accounting. Auditors are a somewhat different pathway, but parallel to accountants in many ways. Certified Public Accountants (CPA’s) must serve a two year apprenticeship and pass a difficult examination in many states before they can be fully certified as auditors.
Other careers in business and finance include various banking position from tellers to loan officers to bank officials. Stock brokers and traders as well as those who trade bonds, currency, and other financial instruments often have a background in business or finance. Market analysts need to have a good understanding of business and finance in order to determine stock values.
Economists often have a background in business and accounting to prepare them for looking at the global picture.
The Salaries commanded by those who are employed in the fields of business or finance will vary from minimum wage positions to the highest paid Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of the multinational corporations. It is not often possible to work one’s way up the ladder from bookkeeper to CEO today, but it’s certainly possible to find a satisfying and financially rewarding career in business and finance.
