Bluetooth is the latest wireless technology in the market which has come as advancement over the traditional wireless technology, the infra red. Nearly all mobile sets and the companies that were providing infra red attachment with their phone sets are now drifting towards Bluetooth for simple reason that the technology is much more superior then infra red. Let us now have a look at the basic building block of the Bluetooth and what this technology has to offer the generation.
Bluetooth works on the principle of Pico net. Well, if you are wondering what a Pico net is. A Pico net is a small area around a Bluetooth user where in the user has all the rights to transfer data and voice. It is a 10 m circle around a user where he is the boss as far as wireless communication is considered. Thus Bluetooth gives privacy to every user. Within the Pico net there can be many Bluetooth enabled devices, out of which one is known as the master and the others are considered slaves. The master has the right to send data and every slave has the right to get the data from the master. Thus is like a small network within a network.
The best thing about the Bluetooth is that you do not have any license from the government for using the wireless bandwidth, because Bluetooth uses the 2.4 GHz free bandwidth available all round the globe. Also there is need of bringing the devices in line of sight of each other for data transfer, you can place the device anywhere within the Pico net and the data will get transferred. In infra red communication, you have to bring the devices in the line of sight for transferring information.
Bluetooth scores over the infrared in many areas. Infra red is a one to one relationship, that means there can be one sender and one receiver, while Bluetooth in a one to any relationship, as explained above. There can be as many receivers within the Pico net receiving simultaneously from on sender. The Bluetooth uses frequency hopping for this process of multiple user data transfer. Thus is you need to send a picture to 10 friends then Bluetooth can do the job done in one tenth of the time taken by infra red. Another very close counter part of Bluetooth is the WIFI technology which is used to provide wireless internet access. It is based on the same technology as Bluetooth.
