The technology is based on the traditional wireless methodology like the Bluetooth is. The term refers to connectivity of multiple users using one wireless network. This technology is mostly used for accessing internet when you are using a wireless device like a mobile phone or a laptop. Now you must be overwhelmed with the word, fidelity. Have u heard it somewhere? Ok, in high fidelity stereo systems. Yes it is the same fidelity, which refers to transmitting wireless data to the station antenna. This is what happens in WiFi, the signal reaches a small antenna that is placed near your work area. This antenna finally sends the signal to the device.
