If you are looking for your next gold fix, and you tell people that your appointment schedule is already filled for the year at the appointment times of 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. every day, they might think that you are a bit weird and might think that you have a new fad drug addiction. If they know that you are investing in gold, then they will accept what you are saying without further questions or comments.
For people that spend their day investing in gold, they seek a gold fix at these set times each day, and set their sights on London time to get their gold fix. Since London, England is one of the oldest gold markets in the world for those gold bars that are physically heavy, the world has set a standard to look to London to give them the price that gold is being sold for, and those prices are provided twice a day.
It seems that everybody uses these published prices, from the gold mining Industry to the consumers that buy the processed gold pieces in jewelry stores to determine what to sell the gold for on any specific hour of the day. Banks and lending institutions will generally focus on investing in gold to make money from the trades. These contract assignments that sell large amounts of gold, go back and forth continuously around the world.
The brokerage firms in New York take their cue from London, and the second the stock market opens, people start investing in gold at the prices that were set by London. Their investing in gold trades are done in contract form, and people commonly refer to this type of investing in gold as paper gold transactions. The New York Mercantile Exchange does a brisk business in selling these future contracts, and is deemed to be the center of these type of investing in gold activities in New York City.
The common investor has not been locked out of investing in gold on the stock market. These investors that are focused on investing in gold, can buy shares of gold that is treated like a tracked commodity and sold like a perpetual security. These investors have to take time out occasionally to thank the World Gold Council for the opportunity to do their investing in gold in this manner. Without their support and organizational skills in buying and selling securities, the common investor would have no other avenues to do their investing in gold shares.
