Hospitality -- A Growing Industry

The hospitality industry is a very strong industry to be in right now. There are many new things coming up in the business. The big names in hotels are putting money into new technologies that make checking in and out much easier. Other things being looked at are things like storing personal information about guests at one location, and having it accessable by the same chain at all other locations.

Most, if not all, of today's leading hotels use in-room systems that can control things like in room music, view your bill, provide gaming options, and some even can control room thermostat and lights. And of course, still make first run movies and tv available.

Another useful new technology is called radio frequency identification (RFID). Hospitality workers have found a variety of uses for this technology, including helping guests find each other and pay for their meals. The RFID bracelet can be preloaded with money and used away from the hotel, as well. A theme park in CA has added the capability to use RFID technology and saw an immediate return on their investment. Guests using the bracelets spent on average 2 - 4 times as much as before. The bracelets can also be used to locate lost children quickly.

In 2006, more than 500 hundred hotels employed more than 50,000 people. Restaurants employ an estimated 12.8 million people. Hospitality industry supplies a lot of jobs. The industry grows larger every year adding more hotels, bed and breakfasts (which are becoming more and more popular) and resorts. Time shares are also a huge part of the hospitality industry, making special vacations more affordable for less wealthy consumers.

Time shares are very popular in the hospitality business. They offer more variety for vacation destinations and most of them can be willed to by the owner to whomever they choose. There are several different ways to purchase time shares, and however the consumer chooses to purchase, the profits are on the rise for the hospitality industry.

There is a rising need for bi lingual employees in the business as travelers come from around the world for business and for pleasure. Many of the major chains are offering extra training for their employees. Most also offer good benefits for their employees.

As more people are choosing to travel, and the ease of travel now, hospitality is a financially sound business to be in.
